Gainesville Community Center

A group project to improve the Pleasant Street neighborhood with a community center with educational, wellness, and rehabilitation components. This project focuses on an organization of program adjacencies to promote community interaction. It combines a concrete form (the spine) and tectonic super structure (ribs) to embolden the longitudinal site.

Section Model

It all begins with an idea. The section model was the basis of our design. A material connection to be repeated along the site constraints. Combining cast-in-place concrete with a tectonic steel structure, this pattern repeats throughout the project.

Site Analysis

The Pleasant Street Neighborhood in Gainesville is at the crossroads of the University of Florida and greater Alachua County area. Historically working class families have been neglected by the regional authorities. This community center hopes to repair those seams torn by a continuously dividing city.
